Welcome to the Community Education page.

At the CPCA, we know that prevention education works! We invite you to join us to gain knowledge and tools to protect the children in our community. We welcome all community members, and no prior knowledge is required to attend these trainings. These trainings discuss sensitive topics and can be hard to talk about. They are designed specifically for adults who are 18+. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Community Education Facilitator.

Here is a list of the trainings that we offer:

Keeping Children Safe (KCS): Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse

In the Keeping Children Safe training, participants will learn about the different types of abuse, how to recognize the warning signs of child abuse and neglect, and how to respond when a child discloses abuse or neglect. Participants will also learn how to report child abuse to the appropriate agencies. This valuable training is ideal for parents, agency staff, camp counselors, non-profit organizations, local government, and community members.

*PLEASE NOTE: This training is not for state certification. If you are a teacher, physician, social worker, or other professional in need of certification as a New York State Mandated Reporter, please register for our NYS Mandated Reporter Training.

Child Advocacy Center 101 (CAC)

The Child Advocacy Center 101 training is designed to familiarize participants with the Child Advocacy Center model and multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach. Participants will learn about the different roles in the CAC and how they all work together to best support children and their families. Participants will also learn about the benefits of having a CAC in their community.

NOTE: The CPCA is home to the Dutchess County CAC. Some CACs might operate differently based on their location and funding.

Digital Safety & Online Exploitation (DSOE)

The Digital Safety and Online Exploitation training is a general awareness training for parents, caregivers, and community members. We will cover topics like grooming, sexting/sextortion, digital reputation, cyberbullying, and how to keep children safe in the digital world. While we do not talk about specific apps, this knowledge can be applied to any app that is used by a child or adult.

Disclosure Training (DT)

In the Disclosure Training, participants will learn more about what to do if a child discloses suspected abuse or neglect to you. This training is for both professionals and community members to better prepare you to support a child during a disclosure. If you have already taken the Keeping Children Safe training, this training goes more in-depth on how to make a child feel safe, empower them to speak up and ask questions that assist in making a report.

Human Trafficking (HT)

In the Human Trafficking training, participants will learn what human trafficking is, vulnerable populations, indicators, and how to best support someone who has experienced trafficking. We will also discuss different types of trafficking, define common terms used regarding trafficking, as well as provide resources. This is an introductory course. For more in-depth knowledge, please reach out to Safe Harbour: NY.
